What should be done to the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station building after the trains move to Woodlands?

  1. Once the function is removed the site looses itself. Any redevelopment will be futile. I can just imagine buying a ticket for a train ride for my kids on a newly installed 200 feet railway track inside the newly build Tanjon Pagar Shopping mall, (formerly known as the Tanjong Pagar Railway station)and reading about how the Singaporeans used to travel by a real train once. OMG did I just have a flashback to an experience on the Sapam ride in the Marina Bay Sands Shopping mall??? Make no mistake I love this place. It is a unique spot in Singapore where you can go for a breather. Things are not laid down on the landscape with the usual top down city planing procedure. They grow organically uninterrupted, unaltered. Once you are unable to go to the central post office to post a letter from a grand old building or take a bum boat ride across the river or take the train from the city centre you loose out on quality of life, it is that simple. What you loose is not just the buildings or the particular sites but also the actions associated with the life in the city. Sorry just clear the ground man.

    • Absolutely agree with you. I much rather all our beautiful old places remain as they are without any change to function. But unless we carry out some big petition, I guess the only other way is to visit as many times as possible until the government tears things down.
