Texas Chicken at Singapore Expo

July 15, 2010

Finally managed to make a trip to Texas Chicken at the Singapore Expo today. YJ and I arrived after 8pm so the Expo was almost deserted. The vastness of the place amplified by the emptiness of it, coupled with the cloudless sky and a particularly bright bit of crescent moon, made me feel as if I wasn’t in Singapore. For a split second, it was as if I was back in New Zealand, transfixed by the countless stars in the otherwise pitch black sky. Then I realised there were only 3 stars in the sky, and I remembered where I was.

Well then, back to Texas Chicken. I must say, it was well worth the trip to a rather out of the way place. I ordered Set 1, which comprised of 2 chicken parts, 1 biscuit, 1 fries or mashed potato or coleslaw, and 1 drink for $7.40. For the chicken parts, I chose 1 original thigh and 1 spicy thigh.

The spicy thigh was spicier than the KFC ones, and the flavour wasn’t to my liking. However, I really really loved the original flavour. Both the chicken thighs were extremely juicy and tender, way more than the KFC ones. I preferred the original flavour because it allowed the tenderness of the meat to come through, whereas the spiciness of the spicy one masked the otherwise delicious chicken.

The biscuit was also very tasty and flaky. It also had a weird hint of syrup, which YJ didn’t notice but I did. Too bad there was no gravy to dip the biscuit in, or it would have been perfect. Believe Popeye’s doesn’t have gravy too. You hear us, make some gravy! The fries are thicker than usual and more like Swenson’s fries than McDonalds or KFC.

On the whole, I would say Texas Chicken really delivers a good chicken meal for fast food prices.
