Singapore Gourmet Bus–Sightsee and dine at the same time!

The other day I had a most interesting meal! Will you believe it that the meal was served in a bus? For the first time ever, dining in a bus in Singapore without breaking the law! The Duck & Hippo peeps have outdone themselves by coming up with Asia’s first Singapore Gourmet Bus where you can enjoy a luxurious sightseeing tour accompanied with food and drink!

Currently, you can opt for either a 2 hour 2 course lunch or 5 course dinner service (both fixed menu) at $57 or $97 per pax respectively. Lunch is a dim sum lunch supplied by the Soup Restaurant while dinner is an Indo-Chinese dinner supplied by IndoChine. Considering that it already cost $23 for the most basic sightseeing tour without food, it sounds like not too bad a deal. En route sights include the Singapore Flyer, Esplanade, Merlion Park, National Gallery Singapore and Marina Bay Sands.

The Plain Jane Cafe

The weather has been relentlessly hot these last few weeks so when the BFF invited me to check out The Plain Jane today, it was with extreme reluctance that I agreed. In fact, he had to entice me with a free taxi ride to Serangoon before I agreed (he lives near me you see).

The Plain Jane (2)

I was not particularly keen to visit either because it seems like The Plain Jane sells mainly Swiss rolls and little else in terms of food. What if I wanted more to nibble on? Thankfully, my fears were quashed as the Swiss rolls we tried were very good! These are unique Swiss rolls quite unlike those you might find from places such as The Polar Cafe. The sponge is thinner while the cream filling makes up the bulk of the pastry. I was wondering if it would be too much cream to sponge but because the cream has a wonderful and unique flavour, the ratio some how worked out! I wouldn’t mind if there was more sponge though.

The Plain Jane - Swiss Rolls

I tried the Nutella Swiss Roll while the BFF tried the Earl Grey Swiss Roll. The Nutella flavour isn’t very strong I must say, but it was still good as a normal chocolate roll. We both agreed we preferred the Earl Grey Swiss roll as it had a pleasanter and more fragrant flavour.

Dallas Restaurant & Bar– Affordable Atas dining!

Frequent visitors to Suntec City over the last decade or so would probably have remembered its rooftop garden, good for taking a respite after hours of toting heavy shopping bags, and a vantage point for viewing the Fountain of Wealth, but nothing more. Well the rooftop garden has undergone a massive makeover to become the Suntec City Sky Garden, boasting numerous spacious new restaurants featuring roof to floor glass walls. It feels as if you’re dining al-fresco, but in the comfort of air-conditioning.

Dallas Restaurant & Bar - (7)

I had the opportunity to dine at Dallas Restaurant & Bar a couple of weeks back. The restaurant is housed in an exquisite glass house-style design and is next to an eye-catching shimmering pool feature. An impressive island bar takes centre stage with its gleaming black marble top, ceiling to floor bottle display and slick leather high-chairs.

With a name like Dallas Restaurant, and having already perused the menu prior to arriving, I was expecting a casual, laid-back restaurant and as a result, I walked right past the restaurant! It is the sort of decor you would expect of a restaurant where you would not be ashamed to wine and dine your business clients. Or to have a romantic and quiet time with your other half.

Dallas Restaurant & Bar

And the best part is, the prices are that of a casual restaurant! Burgers and sandwiches cost about $25 while main courses such as the Roasted Crispy Chicken cost $26 and BBQ barramundi cost $30. Guys, if you’re looking for a posh looking but affordable place to impress your girl, Dallas Restaurant & Bar would be a good choice, just don’t show her the menu prices!
