D’Pastry – Delicious Durian Puffs!

Chanced upon these delicious durian puffs being sold at Bedok Point. These are really amazingly delicious. I’ve never heard of D’Pastry before, so it was a really pleasant surprise to find such good durian puffs in my neighbourhood. The puff itself was oh so light like air. According to the sales assistant, the durian filling itself is made of pure durian puree with no added sugar! Where are they finding these good durians coz I’m not that great a fan of eating durians, yet I enjoyed these durian puffs very much! The puff combined with the durian puree was just superb. Between me and my parents, we polished off 5 in like 1 minute.

There was a sign saying that they’d won the RedNano 2010 award for best durian puffs in Singapore. I think a lot of people have tried the GoodWood Park durian puffs and consider them to be great. I’m not an expert at durian puffs as I haven’t tried all that many, but I would say these are quite on par!

The puffs are 6 for $4.20. Or you could get a single durian crepe for $2, or a durian block cake with a layer of durian puree for $7.

Bedok Point Sushi Tei

Some photos I took of the Bedok Point Sushi Tei. I have heard that the Sushi Tei standards vary from branch to branch. I’m glad to report that the Sushi Tei at Bedok Point Mall is quite good! I hope they didn’t just assign their best chefs for the opening.

It’s great that there is a Sushi Tei so close to where I live now. I’ve always thought that Sushi Tei offers up very affordable yet tasty and fresh sushi and sashimi. How do they keep their costs down? Used to dine at Sushi Tei really often when I worked in the City Hall area. Some say, the City Hall Sushi Tei branch has the best chefs.

Bedok Point Sushi Tei

Full house at 7pm on a weekday

Bedok Point Sushi Tei Prawn sushi roll

Prawn roll – One of the more sinful dishes at Sushi Tei since the prawn is deep fried, and all that fish eggs.

Bedok Point Sushi Tei Salmon Belly Miso Soup

Salmon Belly Miso Soup $10 – I like to take the salmon out so it is still half raw. Once again, with some steamed rice, this becomes a substantial meal.

Bedok Point Sushi Tei Crabstick and Avocado Salad

The salads at Sushi Tei are quite nice in their own right. Although the vegetables are mostly cheap looking lettuce, I like the fact that you can eat this with some steamed rice, and it becomes a filling and satisfying meal.

Bedok Point Sushi Tei Chawan Mushi

Chawan Mushi – If there’s one thing I must have at any Japanese restaurant, that’s Chawan Mushi, also known as egg custard.

Bedok Point Sushi Tei Edamame Beans

Edamame beans are good for health but are quite pricy! This bowl of beans cost $4!

Bedok Point Sushi Tei Green Tea Ice CreamBedok Point Sushi Tei Green Tea Ice Cream (2)

This green tea ice cream was so good, I just had to order another helping! I’ve always thought that I wouldn’t fancy green tea ice cream, but I am now a strong convert! It’s an additional dollar or 2 for the adzuki beans.

Bedok Point Paradise Inn

I thought the sign looked quite nice so I took a picture of it!

Bedok Point Ayam Penyet

Ayam Penyet Ria. There are quite a number of speciality chicken restaurants here. There’s a chicken hot pot restaurant and a chicken rice restaurant both on the 2nd level.

Will post pictures of Kung Fu Paradise soon. Kung Fu Paradise is part of the Paradise group, and is targeted towards the young! Am I too old to dine there?? The staff were all practically just out of their teens and I did not spot a single person there over 30 years of age.

Bedok Point is open!!

Bedok Point, or Bedok Mall, as some would call it is finally open! Bedok is now civilized! This has got to be the smallest mall ever. From the back door, you can see through to the front door! Most of the shops aren’t open, and there is a sickeningly strong turpentine smell there, especially in the basement and the 3rd floor. It’s less strong on the 1st floor due to the air coming in from the entrances I suppose. I marvel at the people who are able to eat there. Still, the smell didn’t deter the throngs of people checking out the Mall at 9pm at night.

We had a cup of coffee at the Killiney Cafe, but luckily that was near the back entrance so it was fine. While we were there, Killiney generated some kind of burnt meat smell, I hope it’s not going to be a permanent thing.

At this point in time,  the restaurants that are already open include the following:- Killiney Cafe, NYDC, Pasta Mania, Mos Burger. I see that Gong Cha will be opening soon. I wonder if it will see snaking queues like their branch at Raffles City. My father is super excited about the Sushi Tei too. I’m just happy that finally we have a kopi place we can go to in Bedok without having to start up the car.

Click on the image below to see the full list of tenants and shops. Where is Bedok Point? You can see it from the MRT train while travelling to and from Bedok and Tanah Merah. It is at the former Changi and Bedok Theatre site. If you are at Bedok MRT, just follow the same direction as the trains going towards Tanah Merah and you will reach it in less than 5 minutes. Bedok Point Tenant Directory

Latest Update as at 6 Jan 2011: Most of the shops and restaurants are now officially opened. The only 2 big businesses not yet opened are K Box Karaoke and Paradise Inn. There is no more paint or turpentine smell anymore. Mall feels clean and tidy, although ventilation can still be improved. You can sometimes get a whiff of the cooked food smell at certain restaurants, but given that the Bedok Point Mall is largely a mall of restaurants, this I suppose is to be expected. The Gong Cha here even has a small sitting area. click here for Frasers Centrepoint Mall’s website for an official list of the shops, restaurants and tenants  at Bedok Point as well as phone numbers.

I asked the staff helping with the renovations when Paradise Inn will open. They told me Paradise Inn will officially open on 17 January 2010 at Bedok Point Mall.
