Known as the best airport in the world for good reason, Singapore’s Changi Airport is a tourist attraction all in itself, elevating your trip tenfold, even if you find you’re only having a layover. At no other airport will you find such collections of artwork scattered throughout the terminal, as well as an ever-changing set of entertainment centers and a vast shopping complex under one roof. Here are some attractions that continue to make Changi Airport the greatest.
Watch a Movie
When booking a private jet, you can choose the type of food and in-flight entertainment you will enjoy, but the air isn’t the only place to see some of your favorite movies on the big screen. Movie theaters can be found in Terminals 2 and 3, and the best part is that the movies are free to watch. If you have time between your connecting flight or fancy getting to the airport early before your private jet sets off into the sky, sit back, relax, and enjoy a movie.
Bask in the Beauty of the Butterflies
Terminal 3 is home to a stunning butterfly garden where over 1,000 different butterflies flutter around in the joy of nature. This is the world’s first airport butterfly garden, and it lets you get up close and personal with the flying creatures and learn about the different species.
Killing time at the airport doesn’t have to be mundane — it can be educational. The garden also features flowers such as the Egyptian Star Cluster, Red Powder Puff plant, and Indian Holly.
Board the Skytrain of Changi Airport
The Skytrain makes traveling from one terminal to another easy at Changi Airport. It is the most convenient way to travel and the perfect opportunity to get a quick tour of the wonderous Jewel. You can take the Skytrain from Terminal 3 and Terminal 2, and from above, you can see spectacular views of the Rain Vortex and Forest Valley.
Entertainment Corner
The entertainment deck is located at Terminal 4 of Changi Airport. You can get your gaming fix right before you board your flight.
You have many choices for games to play, including friendly tennis, bowling, or soccer rounds on the Xbox Kinect. Why not express your nostalgic side with classic arcade games like racing cars or pinball? The deck is open 24 hours a day and can be found on the second level of terminal 4.
Explore the Indoor Gardens
The great thing about Changi Airport is that you don’t need to leave to see the vibrant flowers that reside in Singapore. You can find various gardens around the airport, including the Water Lily Garden, the Tropical Rainforest Vivarium, and the Orchid Garden. In these places, you can sit down, pause, and take in the serenity away from the bustling crowds looking for the departing flight.
Slide down the World’s Biggest Airport Slide
A colossal 12-meter-tall slide stands at Terminal 3’s departure hall. It is a place where the whole family can come and have fun — even adults will release their inner child once again. Enter the slide from Level 1 and glide through to Basement 3 for a last adrenaline rush before you depart on your journey.
Take a Dip and Take In the Scenery
How often do you find an airport with a rooftop pool? Pretty much never, but that’s not the case at Changi. Everything you could ever desire for a relaxing swimming experience, including tranquility-inducing jacuzzis, poolside bars, shower facilities, and towels, is available for visitors on-site. Access to these facilities is free for Aerotel guests, but you can still access them if not, for a fee of $20.
The Rain Vortex
The newest addition to Changi Airport’s ever-changing landscape is the massive HSBC Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. The Jewel centerpiece is another one of the many free airport attractions with the terminals. With cascading water dropping from a height of 130 feet, the drops of water create the look of tiny crystals falling from the sky.
Scale the Heights
Known for the seemingly endless array of attractions, one of the more adrenaline-fueled is Climb@T3, Singapore’s new rock climbing and bouldering facility found in Basement 3 of Terminal 3.
Here, children and adults can climb world-class walls before departing on their flights. The main attraction is the 8-meter-high wall. It has 20 climbing routes, some with an auto-belay system for you to take on the challenge.
For fun without the ropes, take a journey to the 12-meter-long and 2.5-meter-high Boulder Wall — perfect for beginners and young climbers aiming to build confidence on the walls, practicing and sharpening their skills.
Changi Airport
Whether you’re traveling through Asia or heading towards Europe and need a flight to arrive in certain cities, if you get the opportunity, there is no better airport than Changi. It’s the best layover you could have at the best airport in the world.
