C Cafe at Joo Chiat – New minimalist cafe at Joo Chiat with good coffee

Was itching to visit Joo Chiat as I haven’t been in the longest time. Joo Chiat boasts a number of cafes including

  • Homeground Coffee Roasters
  • Choice Cut Goods + Coffee
  • Sinpopo Brand
  • Ninethirty

and the one that opened a couple of months ago, C Cafe. Sinpopo Brand and Ninethirty are both concepts by Awfully Chocolate, and have both been there for nearly a decade. Kudos to Awfully Chocolate for lasting so long in a fickle F&B industry.

C Cafe (2)

I had high hopes for C Cafe, given that it was almost full on a Tuesday morning at 9.30am. Seriously, don’t people need to work? Although a couple were deep in thought typing or scribbling away, most of the patrons were there to dine with friends or family.  We managed to snag one of the last seats at the minimalist white themed C Cafe.

Tayo Station Pop-Up at City Square Mall – Even has a drop-off service!

Fans of Tayo The Little Bus or indoor playgrounds, you will be happy to note that Tayo Station has recently opened a 2,000 sqft pop-up outlet at City Square Mall level B2. The pop-up will be around until 31 December 2020.

Tayo Station (3)

The Tayo Station pop-up, is smaller than its original Tayo Station outlet at Downtown East, however the pricing has been made more affordable. Each 2 hour slot costs $15 on weekdays and $18 on weekends. Not too bad a pricing if your kiddos just want a couple of hours of play. In any case, due to Covid-19 most indoor playground are only offering a 2 or 3 hour block of play time anyway. Safe-distancing measures stipulate that the maximum capacity in the play area is 14 pax.

Allez Les Petits – $20 baking class for kids!

After a long hiatus, here’s a post featuring Edward. As a stay at home mum, I’ve always had the idea that a good part of my time would be spent giving Edward interesting experiences outside of school time. Unfortunately COVID-19 hit and there wasn’t much opportunity to do for many months, and now I’m trying to make up for it.

For example, he is obsessed with trains and one of the things he likes to do is to take train rides around Singapore! Once, he forced us to make the trip to Tuas Link. That journey nearly killed us (the parents) as it was more than 1 hour each way, coupled with a pit stop for lunch. The journey to Tuas Link was not too bad, as we enjoyed looking at the not so familiar scenery. However the return journey was mind-numbingly boring.

Other kids activities that I would loved to have brought him to include more museums, indoor kids playgrounds, swimming, art and music classes etc. I must admit, COVID-19 has made me enjoy staying in the house too much such that I feel lazy to go out even though I feel it is relatively safer now. I must say we made good progress this last one month. These were the things we managed to cover:

  • Pasir Panjang Nursery Tour
  • Science Centre Kids Science Workshop
  • Changi Experience Studio
  • Allez Les Petits
  • Tayo Station Pop Up
  • Adhoc Badminton training sessions

Kraft Kitchen – New Halal Eatery in Tampines!

Checked out a Halal neighbourhood restaurant today in Tampines. It’s called Kraft Kitchen and it recently opened. I was hoping for neighbourhood friendly prices ie, preferably less than $10 or around $10 for a main course. Unfortunately most main courses were $15 and above but I did manage to settle for the Beef Rendang Pot Pie which costs $13 and sounded really promising.

Kraft Kitchen (3)

The Beef Rendang Pot Pie looked really appetising when it arrived, with its shiny cap of puff pastry. Cut through that to reveal chunks and chunks of beef in a soupy stew. The beef was pretty tender and I managed to finish all the pieces. I’m not really sure if the taste of the dish reminds me of rendang, Also it was a little too soupy. Perhaps "rendang-inspired" might be a better name. It was not bad as a beef pot pie, but I wanted the rendang spice kick!
