Senso Ristorante & Bar Moët & Chandon Courtyard Brunch

You may be familiar with Senso’s Italian Prosecco Brunch on Sundays which I blogged about some months back. In addition to this, Senso has now introduced a Moët & Chandon Brunch, to be held every quarterly. These are the special themes (later months tentative) : 

  • October 2018 – Imperial Brut (by bottle)
  • December 2018 – Ice Imperial —> 2nd December, it’s this weekend!
  • March 2019 – Imperial Brut (Magnum)
  • June 2019 – Ice Imperial 
  • September 2019 – Moet Rose
  • December 2019 – Moet Grand Vintage

The Moët & Chandon Brunch will feature a Pop-up Champagne Bar in the Courtyard, with free flow of Champagne, red & white wines and beers. If it’s too much work to visit the Champagne bar, do not fret because the waiters come by often to refill your glasses anyway. Senso’s Italian buffet of salads, antipasti, hot mains, pastas, desserts and other Italian classics will be available. And if you are in a party mood, you will like the House Music by Senso’s resident DJ Donat’. Check out this video taken during October’s Courtyard Brunch, it looks like the party atmosphere is going strong! You don’t have to sit in the courtyard though. We sat in air-conditioned comfort indoors. Smile

Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice – Affordable eats at NEX

If you frequent Bangkok often, you might be familiar with Go-Ang Kaomunkai Pratunam, an eatery that specialises in Thai Hainanese chicken rice. The eatery was established all the way back in 1960 and was awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand Awared in the 1st Bangkok edition of the Michelin Guide.

The good news is that Go-Ang has opened its first overseas outlet in Singapore. The Singapore outlet is called Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice and is located in NEX in Serangoon. To ensure that the dishes served in Singapore are authentic, all kitchen staff are trained by Go-Ang founder Mr Sombat Pruekpaiboon at the original restaurant in Bangkok. Go-Ang is managed by The Minor Food Group Singapore, the restaurant group behind Xin Wang Hong Kong Café and ThaiExpress.

I was invited to Go-Ang’s recent launch and had the opportunity to taste quite a number of the dishes available. I’ve never tried the version in Bangkok, so let me compare this version here vs other chicken rice in Singapore that we are more familiar with.

NOX Dine in the Dark – A mind-blowing experience

This is probably the only post from me that contains no pictures. Yes, I finally experienced NOX Dine in the Dark, and I have to say this stands out as one of the most memorable dining experiences I have ever had.

Truth be told, when NOX first opened back in 2013, I had briefly heard about it and thought the concept to be gimmicky. When I was contacted for the media tasting, I was surprised to find that they are still around! But after finding out what the concept is all about, and experiencing NOX first hand, I have to say that the experience was nothing short of amazing. If you are looking out for new experiences, or feel like every restaurant is the same these days, you need to go experience NOX.

So what is NOX – Dine in the Dark anyway? As the name suggests, guests dine in a restaurant that is completely pitch black. You have to use your other senses, such as taste, touch, smell and hearing to experience the food. The idea is that without sight, your other senses are heightened for a more exploratory dining journey. The servers are specially trained blind or visually impaired people. The prix fixe three course menu will be served via 12 tasting dishes, ie 4 dishes per course. If you don’t want “spoilers” you should totally go make a reservation right now (Christmas treat maybe?) and not scroll any further.

Christmas 2018 – An illuminating Christmas at Pan Pacific Singapore

Christmas is but just over a month away. Are you ready for all the festivities!??!?!? Based on years of experience, do not wait till Christmas Eve or Christmas Day to celebrate the day, because the precious day just goes so fast. IMHO, you need to get into the Christmas spirit now! Start soaking in the festivities now, because before you know it, January will descend upon us like a ton of bricks.

So that means meeting up with friends over Christmas afternoon tea and Christmas dinner, walking down Orchard Road to see the Christmas Lights (it’ll still be fun even if you aren’t a fan of Disney) and stocking up on Christmas cookies and log cake. If you’re thinking of buying a real live Christmas tree but not sure about it, I say go for it. The smell of fresh pine is incredible, and even if you do not decorate it with a single ornament, your house will still smell of Christmas.

Swissotel Merchant Court Crossroads Bar Afternoon Tea

Can you believe that it’s going to be Christmas soon? It’s cliched to say this but seriously, where has the time gone? I was looking through my photo archives and reminiscing the celebration we had for Edward’s 2nd birthday, when I realised that in just a few months time, it’ll be time to celebrate his 3rd birthday!  Where has the round headed baby gone?

Speaking of celebrations, here’s how we celebrated his 2nd birthday, over afternoon tea at the Swissotel Merchant Court. An apt time to be posting this because I often associate cosy afternoon tea sessions with Christmas time. Apart from Christmas posts, you’ll be seeing more afternoon tea and staycation posts now that it’s the holiday period! I certainly hope you love the Christmas period as much as I do.

Swissotel Merchant Court Crossroads Bar serves a Peranakan inspired afternoon tea, available daily from 3pm – 5pm. Nyonya savouries such as petite braised pork bely in steam leaf bun, otak otak on toast, sambal ayam panggang sandwiches and freshly made kueh pie tee to name a few, will be served on a tiered platter. When we were there earlier this year, they also had a Western afternoon tea set, so we asked them to mix and match the items. The food you see below is for a 2 persons order. My parents came to join us for the cake cutting and candle blowing!
