Sofitel Singapore City Centre 1864 lobby bar – Elegant afternoon tea with Croiffles!

Media Invite

What is a croiffle did you say? Croiffle or Croffle is a croissant waffle hybrid, and I say whoever created this match made in heaven is a genius. It’s not commonly found in Singapore and indeed, the revamped afternoon tea at Sofitel Singapore City Centre’s 1864 lobby bar was where I tasted this wonderful creation. Think buttery croissant but in the shape of a waffle, so it’s a little bit denser with more bite. And that’s not all, Sofitel 1864’s creation comes topped with Truffle Camembert. The addition of this buttery cheese elevates the croiffle into sheer decadence.

And you can sample this croissant waffle at Sofitel 1864’s revamped afternoon tea. The set comprises the following items:

  • Baked Scone with Rum and Dried Fruits
  • Classic Scone with Clotted Cream and Bonne Maman Marmalade
  • Matcha Azuki Genoise
  • Topinambour and Jivara Chocolate Tart Verrine
  • Mini Croissant Waffle with Truffled Camembert
  • Kueh Pie Tee with Crab Meat and Caviar Creme
  • Baked Frittata with Octopus and Smoked Cayenne Aioli
  • Atlantic Smoked Salmon Sandwich with Fennel Pesto
  • Assorted Praline and Macaron

Marriott Crossroads Cafe - Steak Frites T-Bone (900gm-1kg) - $168

Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel’s Crossroads Cafe has recently launched new items to its menu. As the name suggests, Crossroads Cafe is located at at the crossroads of Orchard Road. It’s so conveniently located that it’s always bustling no matter the time of the day. Even the tourists and Marriott’s hotel guests who flock to the cafe know that it is the place to people watch while downing a cold drink or having a meal. It may be called a cafe but with its East-meets-West menu, you can get proper meals here such as steaks, pastas, burgers, local delights like hor fun, salads and even oysters.

I was recently invited to sample the new dishes that Crossroads Cafe has come up with. Scroll down to find out more.

[Media Invite]

If you haven’t already heard, Sushiro, Japan’s largest kaiten (conveyor belt) sushi chain has just opened its maiden outlet in Singapore at Tiong Bahru Plaza on Monday 19 August. This is exciting news because Sushiro is immensely popular in Japan, serving over 149 million customers in Japan alone, or how about 1.36 billion plates of sushi per year? I hear there are long queues already, in part thanks to opening specials. Better hurry down if you want to enjoy things like sea urchin sushi for only $4.80 for 2 pcs!

Teppan Kappou Kenji – Affordable Japanese food right in the heart of Tanjong Pagar

Great Japanese food is hardly synonymous with affordable prices, but recently I chanced upon a gem located in the heart of Tanjong Pagar, just a few minutes walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT station. This is a gem not just because the food here is fabulous, but that it’s price point allows you to actually feel comfortable visiting multiple times as opposed to it being for just special occasions.

For example, lunch sets start from $12.90, and includes chawan mushi. As far as I know, this is even cheaper than certain sushi chains in Singapore. For dinner, its entirely possible to order a dish and pair it with rice to form a complete meal for less than $20.
