Craftsmen Specialty Coffee Siglap Revisited

Since my first visit to Craftsmen Specialty Coffee at Siglap, I’ve been back a couple of times especially at night after dinner at one of my favourite cze char outlets nearby. It’s a nice cafe to go to because it is more spacious than most other cafes, and I can usually find a seat to huddle in with my parents. The older folks don’t really like having to wait you know.

If you’re an Eastie and like Craftsmen Specialty Coffee, you might be glad to know they have opened another branch at Eastwood near Tanah Merah. I’ll blog more about that in the next post, but first, some pictures I took of our visit last week during the 1st day of Chinese New Year.

Craftsmen Specialty Coffee

The cafes have heeded my call and are now slowly popping up in the Eastern part of Singapore! Check out this new Craftsmen Specialty Coffee, which opened just a couple of weeks back at Siglap V, opposite the old Siglap Centre. It’s a pretty spacious cafe as they haven’t packed the place to the gills with seating. When I was there around 4 plus pm yesterday on Good Friday, it was nearly full. And when I left at about 5 plus pm, it was nearly empty.

With a name like Craftsmen Specialty Coffee, you know the emphasis here is on coffee. You want V-60, Chemex, Siphon, Woodneck and Cold Brew, they have it here. For me, while I like to think of myself as a coffee lover, my coffee drinking repertoire stops at cafe latte and flat white. I’ve tried Chemex and Cold Brews before elsewhere, but I suppose my palate was not refined enough to really appreciate the flavours. Give me a cafe latte anytime.

Just to add, apart from a selection of 3 quiches and 2 sandwiches, Craftsmen Specialty Coffee does not appear to be serving any other types of food requiring onsite preparation. At least not for now.

And so a cafe latte I got. If you feel that the saucers and cups remind you of Dutch Colony Cafe, you are right, because they have invested here. The cafe latte was pretty enjoyable, strong aroma although it had a slight bitter aftertaste yet not a robust body.

PasarBella at The Grandstand

Have you heard of Pasar Bella at The Grandstand? If the Grandstand doesn’t sound familiar, maybe the word Turf City will? The Grandstand is the new name of the former Turf City, and Turf City of course got its name from the place being the former Turf Club of Singapore. If you haven’t been to this area in a long time, like more than half a year ago, you really ought to make a trip back because the whole place is revamped! Taking centrestage is this lovely Farmer’s Market concept called Pasar Bella. This is different from the weekend only Dempsey Loewen Gardens Farmer’s market because PasarBella is a permanent farmer’s market, so you can visit anytime from Monday to Sunday.

Pasar Bella (27)

This Pasar Bella is something many Singaporeans who have been overseas and fallen in love with romantic and pretty farmers’ markets, have been pining for. It’s a wonder why we haven’t had something like this long ago judging from the crowds that thronged the opening days of Pasarbella! There are numerous shops at PasarBella, ranging from florists, to organic grocers, to gourmet coffee stops and of course cafes and restaurants. The name of the game here is to offer something better than mass produced goods. Quality, value and sustainability are key words here. Come hungry and you will be able to spend a lovely morning or afternoon here. Smile Sounds like an advertorial, but nope, I am not being paid to write this!
