Häagen-Dazs High Tea Affair

*Media Invite*

Häagen-Dazs Girls' Day Out (2)

Despite the proliferation of new ice cream parlours in Singapore, I still stick loyal to my favourite ice cream company. There’s nothing quite like a Häagen-Dazs ice cream out there. If you ask me, Häagen-Dazs makes the best vanilla ice cream and Belgian chocolate ice cream. Their ice creams are rich tasting and each mouthful of the cold treat envelopes your tongue like smooth velvet and just instantly makes you forget your troubles (even if they crash back onto you when you pay the bill). I’ve never disliked any ice cream flavours I’ve tried at Häagen-Dazs.

They say commercialised ice creams have lots of additives in them, but I’ve looked at the ingredient list on their vanilla ice cream and the ingredient list is super short! I’m sure everyone has their own favourite ice cream brands, but I think most people will agree that when it comes to indulgence and having a luxurious time, nothing spells it quite like Häagen-Dazs.

As if a trip to a Häagen-Dazs store wasn’t indulgent enough, the people there had to up the ante with this new High Tea Affair promotion. The Häagen-Dazs 3-tier High Tea set is decked with 3 mini scoops each of Cookie Dough Chip, Belgian Chocolate and Strawberry ice cream; followed by a choice of 6 delicate ice cream macaroons and finally, succulent pieces of kiwis, raspberries and grapes.

Häagen-Dazs kindly invited me and 3 of my girly pals to check out their new offerings. It was truly a perfect girls day out! Good ice cream. Good friends. What more can you ask for?

Häagen-Dazs Girls' Day Out - High Tea Affair (3) High Tea Affair $38++ Friend in the photo not included in the set!

Häagen-Dazs Girls' Day Out - High Tea Affair (2) Closer shot of the -Dazs 3-tier High Tea. Top deck comprises of 3 mini scoops each of Cookie Dough Chip, Belgian Chocolate and Strawberry ice cream.

The mini scoops of ice cream were decadently delicious! The 4 of us were practically swooning over the set. I know it’s meant to be a “Girl’s Day Out” affair so the ice creams are mini and dainty, but when it comes to ice cream, big is good! Wow I can just imagine if Häagen-Dazs creates a “Boy’s Day Out” promotion and comes up with some gigantic ice cream, I’d be the 1st in line to try it!

Häagen-Dazs Girls' Day Out - Macaroon Mélange (3) Ice Cream Macaroons. 8 flavours to choose from.

On the 2nd tier, you have the ice cream macaroons (or macarons if you will). These are nothing like the French macarons even though they look similar!! If I may say so, these ice cream macarons are way BETTER! Seriously! Each macaron has a thin chocolate shell, which hides creamy, luscious ice cream and Chantilly cream. The chef who created this must be a genius! Biting into each macaron, you get a mix of wonderful flavours and textures. You have the crisp and thin chocolate shell, and the delicious cold ice cream just bursts into your mouth. One word, FANTASTIC. Okay 2 more words, MUST TRY.

You don’t have to get the 3-tier High Tea in order to enjoy the macarons. You can order the Macaroon Mélange on its own for $18++ served with mango sauce and garnished with almond nibs and strawberries. The macaroons are also available as gift sets to take home and come in a variety of flavors including Caramel Biscuit & Cream, Strawberry, Chocolate and Cookies & Cream. The gift set is priced at S$25+

Häagen-Dazs Girls' Day Out - Cookie Dough Chip Petite Temptations

That’s not all that Häagen-Dazs has come up with. You can also try the Petite Temptations – S$18++, which is not included in High Tea Affair set. This is vanilla ice cream studded with chunks of buttery cookie dough and sweet fudge chips, accompanied by drizzles of mango and chocolate sauce. I found the cookie dough ice cream to be yet another excellent ice cream flavour. I never was a fan of cookie dough, but I think I’m a convert now. Love it that I can “bite” my ice cream. The cookie at the base of the ice cream was a nice touch, although on it own their own those cookies were pretty ordinary.

Häagen-Dazs Girls' Day Out - Macaroon Mélange (2) This was what I had from the 3 tier set. You can tell I like Chocolate eh…

Häagen-Dazs Girls' Day Out - Earl Grey Tea

At first I ordered an Earl Grey, thinking that I might need something hot and light to help the ice creams go down.

Häagen-Dazs Girls' Day Out - Cafe Mocha

But who was I kidding man. I didn’t need help with ice creams! After I finished my Earl Grey and was still thirsty, I ordered another Cafe Mocha. Now one place I think serves excellent Iced Cafe Mocha is The Coffee Club. It’s like the only drink I order when I go there. I think I’ve just found another Iced Cafe Mocha which I like very much. Check out the generous amount of chocolate at the bottom of the glass!

Häagen-Dazs Girls' Day Out (3) Me and my 3 other girly pals….

Rendezvous Grand Hotel Singapore Afternoon Tea

*Media Invite*

I haven’t had English Afternoon Tea for the longest time. It was a pleasant surprise when Ms Christina Tan, Marketing Manager of Rendezvous Grand Hotel Singapore after reading about my Afternoon Tea exploits, kindly kindly extended an invitation to me and to fellow blogger PXDKITTY.

Having afternoon tea always puts me in a good mood. One gets to delight in the beautiful chinaware used, the exquisite little morsels of cakes and finger sandwiches, and the girly company. For some reason, I cannot imagine 2 men having afternoon tea together.

It was particularly delightful to learn that the English Afternoon Tea at Rendezvous Grand Hotel costs only $18.90. Compared to the approx $32 Afternoon Tea at Regent Hotel or $38 at The Knolls Sentosa, the one at Hotel Rendezvous is a steal! Rendezvous Grand Hotel does not provide free flow of coffee or tea (just the 1 cup), but it’s still good value!

You may not know this but Rendezvous Grand Hotel has recently undergone a major Renovation, including a name change from the previous Hotel Rendezvous. The Palong Bar, located on the 1st floor of the hotel and where we had our Afternoon tea, looks sleek yet comfortable.

Rendezvous Hotel Palong Bar - Afternoon Tea 3-tier service (2)

Three tiers of finger sandwiches, savoury pastries and desserts!

Rendezvous Hotel Palong Bar - Various Desserts

Dessert was my favourite tier so I shall start talking about the dessert items first!

  • Paris Brest (hazelnut cream)
  • Macaroon (chocolate, orange or lemon)
  • Cheese cake
  • Tiramisu
  • Raspberry mousse

Those chocolate and lemon macaroons were fantastic. I wish there were more of them. The sweet filling sandwiched by 2 crisp layers of wafers, they were almost melt in the mouth. They are smaller than usual so I crunched them up whole. Delicious!

Rendezvous Hotel Palong Bar - Tiramisu

The other notable items were the raspberry mousse cake, the chocolate cake and the tiramisu. I like my tiramisus to be as moist as possible with more cake rather than mousse. I don’t mind if it’s swimming in the liquor actually! The tiramisu at Hotel Rendezvous had just the right ratio of liquor, cake and mousse.

Rendezvous Hotel Palong Bar - Raspberry mousse

The raspberry mousse cake was light and sweet without being cloying. Once again, there was more cake than mousse, which is really how I prefer it.

Rendezvous Hotel Palong Bar - Durian Pengat

Christina is a huge fan of durian. After she got us on that topic, and we realised that Hotel Rendezvous makes its own Durian Pengat, we just had to try it even if it wasn’t included in the Afternoon Tea Set! It was smooth and tasty with just the right amount of sweetness. I wouldn’t mind a more intense durian flavour if that could be possible.

1-Caramel Dessert Boutique

*Invited Session*

1Caramel (25)

The cake says it all. Welcome to 1 Caramel! Don’t you just love all the cutesy little clown faces and the adorable lion? If only someone would buy me this birthday cake instead of a boring old chocolate cake! I feel happy just looking at this.

1Caramel (23)

With a name like 1 Caramel, it’s not difficult to guess what they specialise in. Sweet treats galore, they have stuff like Baked Alaska, Mille Feuille, Earl Grey creme brulee and even 5 types of soufflé! This picture here is of the Raspberry lychee rose pannacotta with lychee-lemon compote. You have to try this exquisite little thing. Somehow it’s the perfect combination and I really love the rose and fruity taste.

1Caramel (20)

Baked Alaska – The only other time I’ve seen this in a Singapore menu was at The Ship.  Pretty good. The meringue was sitting on top of a decadent piece of brownie. It was an acquired taste for me, having meringue together with brownie. The macaron on the side was really nice! I wouldn’t mind having seconds!

1Caramel (19)

Each of the desserts can be ordered individually at $14. Or you could mix and match 3 – 5 desserts for between $16 – $24. Assiette means plate in French. I’d definitely recommend the panna cotta, Earl Grey creme brulee and the Death by Chocolate at the very least. I tell you, you have to believe them when they name their chocolate cake so. It takes a while to even swallow one mouthful because it is so rich.

More dessert pictures further down in the post. 1 Caramel doesn’t just serve desserts, they also specialise in brunch menu items. Don’t ask me how they got into this combination, but it just seems to work.

Traditional Eggs Benedict with smoked Salmon $14 – This is really good. This is like the perfect combination. Poached eggs with salty smoked salmon on a toasted English muffin. I don’t think I can ever eat plain eggs Benedict again. You should check out Mr Keropokman’s photo of the ooooozy yolk. Mine glopped all over the place so I shan’t torture you with the photo.
