ME@OUE–Catch unblocked views of the NDP fireworks for $6!

NDP Fireworks (1)

NDP at the Floating Platform (1)

View of the Marina Bay Floating Platform and the NDP Preview Fireworks last week

The rooftop bar at ME@OUE is like a hidden gem in the heart of the CBD with front row tickets to watch any fireworks held at the Marina Bay area for next to free! Did you know they didn’t charge anything extra at all for all the NDP rehearsals? YOU could have gotten this view for a $6 espresso or $12 for 5 jumbo prawns. In fact, there is no cover charge at all at the rooftop bar, except for ME@OUE Fiesta days, which is like only several times a year. Now don’t say I didn’t give you a heads up for the upcoming F1…

August 9 though, will be a ME@OUE Fiesta day (only the 2nd this year). From 5.30pm – 8.30pm, they will be having ME@OUE Fiesta – National Day Edition which will feature amongst others:

  • Pop-up live roast stations featuring Dried Rubbed Greater Omaha August Tomahawk & Prime Rib and “Bangalow” Sweet Pork Belly Char Siew etc
  • Saint Vaast Oyster Bar
  • Japanese Robatayki skewers using Kumamoto A4 Wagyu Beef Cube, Chicken with Shiro Negi, Meikajiki, Tiger Prawns, Shishito etc.
  • Live Sushi stations
  • Butler-passed canapés and desserts

ME@OUE SG50 Menu

The Marina Bay area is blessed with many great restaurants with spectacular views and Me@OUE is definitely among the top, literally speaking. I’ve seen the bay from many different angles and thought I had seen everything. But the view from Me@OUE’s rooftop lounge and restaurant is great because it is at a comfortable height (not too high) which makes you feel like you are in the thick of the fireworks.

[New Year’s Eve] Salt Grill & Sky Bar

It seems like the turkey has hardly been stuffed before one needs to contemplate a fitting way to end the year with a blast. The truth of the matter is that I’m always quite shocked to discover (after Christmas) that the New Year is but 7 days away.

Well, what to do for New Year’s Eve has been put on the front burner after I received this invitation to sample Salt Grill & Sky Bar’s New Year’s Eve menu. And should I call it New Year Eve 2014, or New Year Eve 2015? December 31 is undoubtedly still in 2014, but put another way, it is also the eve of the new year of 2015! You tell me the answer.

Salt Grill New Year's Eve Menu (3)

I love dining at Salt Grill & Sky Bar. If you’ve been there, you’d know that the view is fantastic. You can see out for miles and miles, and some how, it feels like Singapore has fewer high rise buildings than I would have thought. Singapore boasts quite a number of roof top / sky high restaurants, but many are in the financial district. So, another thing that Salt Grill has going for it is its convenience, being perched 50 storeys above the ION Orchard shopping mall. This is probably why they’ve come up with a brunch menu as well as an afternoon tea service, to cater to the ladies of leisure (or aspiring ones) who may feel peckish after a spot of shopping. The private room, perched one level higher is also the spot for many a business dinner, as was the case the last 2 times I was there.

Salt Grill NYE Tasting Menu

Anyway, after arriving for dinner, I was promptly told that I would be sampling ALL the dishes on New Year’s Eve 2014/2015 menu. No problem! I had just spent 1 hour at the Takashimaya Trim Shop jostling with the other early bird Christmas shoppers so I had dutifully worked up an appetite. As always, you will be greeted with a welcome soup, in the form of a coconut broth with Sydney spice served in a shot glass. It tastes exactly as its name suggests, and not only warms you up but whets your appetite in anticipation of what’s in store.

Zafferano Restaurant [Restaurant Week Oct 2014]

It’s Restaurant Week again this week, have you made your bookings yet? After skipping the last round, I came back with a vengeance and I’ll be going for a total of 3 Restaurant Week meals this round! Restaurant Week is a really good opportunity to savour set lunches or set dinners in many illustrious restaurants around Singapore, at a relatively affordable price! Thanks to the American Express Platinum Credit Card, I managed to snag all my reservations during the priority booking round.

Today, the BFF and I visited Zafferano at the top of Ocean Financial Centre. I’ve been to Zafferano only once, roughly about 1 year ago for dinner, so it was great to have the opportunity to revisit during the day time to see the restaurant in its full glory.

Zafferano - Complementary Bread

Even though Zafferano is at the top of the Ocean Financial Centre on the 43rd floor, as you can see from the picture above, there is lush greenery all around the restaurant, which kinda makes you feel as if you dining in a garden in the sky.

Chose this for my appetiser. Raw meat is such a turn on for me, if you have never tried steak tartare or carpaccio, I highly recommend that you do. There’s nothing bloody about it and it doesn’t have a raw and uncooked taste. Instead, you will delight in the delicate texture and richness of flavour. Absolutely enjoyed this dish and the interplay of salty and savoury flavours from the other ingredients.
