As much as our family loves travelling overseas, we can only do so largely during the school holidays. What is a person to do when you are shackled to Singapore but need a breather from your own house? A themed staycation is the solution!
Recently we had the opportunity to check out M Hotel’s Nautical Family Suite for a blissful 3 day 2 night staycation. It was a whirlwind of activity the minute we arrived! It seemed like our arrival was very much anticipated because staff lost no time in handing out balloons and goodie bags to the kids. In fact I later found out that there are only two rooms in the entire M Hotel that have been decked out in the Kiztopia Nautical Suite theme, so make sure you book early if you have a special occasion in mind.
There was a cute little sign pasted outside our room to indicate that it was a Nautical Family Suite. Needless to say the children whooped with joy upon entering the room. A huge suite greeted us and was divided into two halves by a sliding door. The children’s bedroom had been decked out from head to toe in a Kiztopia Nautical/Beach theme, from the cute Kiztopia themed bedsheets, to plushies as well as the mural on the wall. A kids-sized table containing lots of lego bricks had been provided, as well as a Nautical activity book and even a nautical themed kids encyclopaedia to make sure no moment remained idle.
Even the bathroom looked super inviting with the hugest bathtub / jacuzzi tub I have ever seen in all of my hotel stays. Little rubber duckies lined one side of the tub, waiting to play, while kid size bathroom slippers and towel had also been thoughtfully provided.

After we managed to tear ourselves from the room, we visited the Executive Lounge to see what they had in store for us. A “ship” themed afternoon tea was brought out to us, with the items being refillable if we wanted more. Since we hadn’t had lunch, the afternoon tea was a perfect substitute!
The view is great from the Executive Lounge, so be sure to take some selfies! There were also simple board games / card games available to pass the time.
When evening time arrived, the staff brought up a bottle of bubbly and canapes to the room for us to enjoy. The canapes are refillable too so it’s possible to treat them as a light dinner if you don’t mind the variety of food provided.
Since we were staying for two nights, for the next night, we were given the option to have a repeat bottle of the bubbly or to take something else eg a bottle of red. It’s also possible to enjoy the Evening Cocktail session at the Executive lounge. However since the kids wanted to binge watch TV in the room, we found staying put to be the most convenient option.
Time for bed! We closed the sliding door on them to give ourselves some peace!
The next day, since it was the weekend, we were in ultimate sloth-mode which obviously meant we ended up at the breakfast buffet during the peak hour. Luckily we still managed to snag a corner table. The buffet spread had the usual essentials such as made-to-order eggs, Western and Asian dishes and a generous pastry and dessert station.

After breakfast, we decided to make the most of our prominent location in the heart of Singapore’s CBD area to check out any nearby amenities. We were delighted to discover that the then soon to be opened Prince Edward Road MRT Station on the TEL line was just a few steps round the back of the block, no need to even cross any major roads! We could visit VivoCity just a few stops away, or perhaps stop at Cantonment MRT Station to visit the numerous cafes near there. So many options, so little time!
Guess what, we were so lucky to bump into Minister Shanmugam, who was touring the new MRT during the TEL 4 Open House.
During our stay, we also had the opportunity to check out the dinner buffet at Café 2000 AND The Buffet Restaurant, renowned as the city center’s first halal-certified Peranakan buffet. Yes you understood correctly, TWO buffet restaurants in 1 hotel, that’s a first for me as well and I thought I’d seen it all, being a food writer.
If you love Peranakan food, or are more interested in local dishes and can tolerate spice, this is the buffet to go for. We tried the satay which was fantastic, brimming with so much flavour. There is even a live band going on. Many of the diners were in large groups either comprising family or friends, and it was heartwarming to see the convivial atmosphere. For $39.80++ for dinner per adult that’s a really fantastic price considering the prime location in town!
Café 2000 is the buffet to go for at M Hotel if you are more into Western dishes like Chargrilled Tomahawk and Roast Lamb Leg. It also has a Taste of Malaysia and Taste of India section. Since the kids couldn’t tolerate spice that well, we opted to dine at Café 2000, where the buffet spread is larger and more varied. It is currently closed until 30 September 2026 for renovation. I can’t wait to see what transformation awaits us.
On the whole, the kids enjoyed themselves so much with the lovely kids room, and us adults were in a good mood too after all that bubbly!
