I bought 3 Nigella Lawson Cookbooks for $20!

In total that is! At the Singapore Book Fair held at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre. It’s ongoing from 25 May 2012  – 3 June 2012.

Incredible right? If you know who Nigella Lawson is and if you follow her cooking shows on Starhub’s Asian Food Channel, you’d know that her cookbooks don’t come cheap! Each alone I believe would have cost in excess of $50 I believe. Yet I got them for a total of $20! It’s crazy! I mean I’ve been wanting her cookbooks for so long but the prices always put me off. Jamie Oliver’s too.

If you want to get cookbooks at massive discounts, you can check out the Singapore Book Fair. I bought mine at the Times Bookstore booth, and it’s just 2 shelves worth of cook books. The rest of the booths are mostly Chinese books or Educational booths.

  See, I’m not lying!!!

Some books don’t have stickers, so they are sold at the sticker price, which is about $10 – $15. Still damn cheap! I said I would swear off buying cook books until I’ve cooked/baked a significant amount of dishes from the books I’ve bought, but this is an exception right??? Don’t buy sure regret right????? Even my mother SMILED when I brought back the 3 books. Only the Partner frowned, because he had to carry them. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Suntec Singapore – International Convention and Exhibition Centre

Did you ever notice, the Suntec Convention Centre’s roof changes colour? It must be a little known and even lesser appreciated fact by the shoppers, since it is hardly noticeable from the street level.

Office workers rushing last minute work at night might sometimes peer out the office tower block windows. The glowing roof lights probably serve to remind them that they’re slogging in the office while across the street, a world away, fun and refreshment allude them.

Perhaps only the tourists staying in the hotels surrounding Suntec Singapore would have the time to gaze out at the thoughtfully constructed roof.

Pearl River Palace at Suntec Singapore Convention Centre – CLOSED

Update: With great sadness, I announce that Pearl River Palace will be closing down for good from 3 January 2011. (Closing down = Poof, no more there! It’s not moving somewhere else so don’t google for it!) Victoria Peak Restaurant is set to move in 18 January 2011. I only hope that Victoria Peak’s dim sum is as good as Pearl River Palace’s. If not, that’s 1 less place to have good dim sum in Singapore.

Where to find the best dim sum in Singapore? In my opinion, Pearl River Palace is one of the best places to have Dim Sum (also known as Yum Cha). The Dim Sum and service is hotel standard even though the prices are not. I always think that the mark of a good restaurant is seen in its Har Gow. Pearl River Palace’s Har Gow has humongous and succulent prawns in them, wrapped up in a deliciously thin and light dumpling skin. It’s making me salivate just thinking about it!!!

Each basket costs about $4, which is pretty much the same price as any other cheaper looking restaurant. Being located in the convention centre, their restaurant is humongous. You can almost always get a table on the weekends even if you don’t make a reservation.

Ask for a table by the windows and you can watch the world go by as you dine. PRP also has a buffet Dim Sum for about $35, which you should only go for if you are extremely hungry.
