Pan Pacific Hotel Singapore Staycation

Pan Pacific Hotel Singapore (7)

Stayed at the Pan Pacific Singapore 2 weeks ago. It was an absolutely relaxing and recharging experience. Before we booked the room, I mulled briefly over whether it would be worth the money just for a 1 day affair. However, there were no doubts that this was the right decision once we had checked into the hotel.

Staycations (ie “holidaying” without leaving Singapore) are a common thing in Singapore now, but perhaps not so common is a staycation coupled with club room access. Having club room access means that you can access the exclusive club lounge, and this is great for those who don’t plan to leave the hotel at all. There’s only so much sleeping and tv watching you can do in the hotel room, and you can’t swim all day either. Club lounge access allows you to have your breakfast in the exclusive club lounge rather than rough it out with the rest of the guests in the Hotel restaurant. Also, afternoon tea and evening cocktails are provided, which means that you don’t even have to worry about your meals!

The Pacific Club

We spent a good part of our staycation holed up at the Pacific Club sipping tea and eating nibbles while reading newspapers or just enjoying the view. More about the Pacific Club in my next post, but first up, pictures of our Pacific Harbour King room.

Random food photos from Raffles Hotel

Was at the 2nd Rendezvous with French Cinema event earlier this month at Raffles Hotel. Highlight of the day was to meet the famous French actress Sophie Marceau. Some might remember her in one of the Bond movies, The World is not Enough. I don’t watch all that many movies but I did happen to catch that one and I enjoyed it a lot.

I really admire Sophie Marceau and people like her. She has kids yet she still manages to juggle a backbreaking jet setting career. The idea of having to fly all over the world and live out of a suitcase may seem daunting, but wouldn’t that really be living life to the fullest? Sometimes I wish I were doubly busy with back to back appointments. Then I can say to myself that I’ve made use of every minute that I have. Of course it would be a fine line between just packing your days with inane stuff, versus going slowly but doing more meaningful work.

Anyway, since the highlight of the event wasn’t so much about food, I didn’t take many photos of the canapés served. Couldn’t resist taking a picture of the Champagne and pretty chocolate pastry though. The Champagne was the 1st thing I had that day! Smile

Ain’t these just so pretty???? BTW, the cakes at Ah Teng Bakery in Raffles Hotel are surprisingly affordable at about $6 a slice. Considering it’s Raffles Hotel, that pricing is quite palatable!

Grand Copthorne Waterfront Solemnization by the River

Grand Copthorne Waterfront

I am in a wedding mood so I thought I’d share some pictures of nice solemnization areas. Here’s a picture of the solemnization area for Grand Copthorne Waterfront. Love how they have done up the pillars in brown sashes. It would be a nice place to say I DO. The only issue with all these outdoor places is what happens if it rains? But at least in this case the couple won’t get wet. Love the jets of water coming down from the roof.

Grand Copthorne Waterfront (2) You get the view of the Singapore River

Robertson Quay (2) If you’re not getting married, it’s quite nice to stroll along this part of the river too.

People living in these condos must have a really pleasant environment to live in.

Bay Hotel Singapore is organizing an online treasure hunt competition, paired with questions about the hotel, exclusively for fans of Bay Hotel Singapore’s Facebook fanpage in Singapore.

The online treasure hunt is inspired by the cupid and love of Valentine’s Day, where participants will have to locate 3 icons amidst images of the hotel. Facebook fans that manage to show evidence of finding these 3 icons, and who correctly answer the given question – “What is the name of the tapas bar and grill at Bay Hotel Singapore?” – will stand a chance to win the prize.

Each lucky winner will win a one night stay in Bay Hotel’s Singapore Deluxe Queen Room for 2 persons, including breakfast. There will be two lucky winners. The Valentine’s Day treasure hunt will end on 19th February 2012 (11pm, GMT +8), with the winners announced in late February 2012.

Festive Gourmet Food Trail with Ah Lun

*Media Invite*

I was delighted to received this email inviting me to attend the Festive Gourmet Food Trail with Ah Lun, organized by Wan Bao and Omy.sg. Ah Lun is a veteran journalist, but it seems his skills aren’t just limited to writing, he is a very funny host too. Ah Lun would be bringing a group of foodies to sample Christmas and Chinese New Year festive cuisines at 8 famous restaurants. At each restaurant, one would get to sample several dishes.

And the most important sentence of in the email…”Please come with a really empty stomach!” To be frank, while I was delighted, I was also apprehensive, after the really belly bursting 8 restaurant Gastromania Feast at Far East Square! Still, it was an opportunity not to be missed. This time round, only 2 restaurants. I can handle it….

4 session to choose from so I picked the 3rd:-

5 Nov (Sat) – 1230pm to 530pm, Crystal Jade Palace and Swissotel Merchant Court
12 Nov (Sat) – 12pm to 530pm, Shin Yeh Restaurant and Sze Chuan Court @ Fairmont Hotel
19 Nov (Sat) – 12pm to 530pm, Thai Village Restaurant and Rendezvous Hotel
26 Nov (Sat) – 12pm to 530pm, Tien Court @ Copthorne King’s Hotel and Mandarin Hotel

It costs $108/pax, but despite the amount, the event was almost full house! 8 tables worth of people for my session but I am told that the 26 November session, which is already sold-out, has more than 150 sign-ups!

The whole event was very enjoyable. Ah Lun and his sidekick Xiao Peng had the room cracking up with their numerous jokes and games. Since I was sitting at the VIP table, I didn’t have to worry about being hauled up to stage and I could enjoy my food while being entertained. I think I quite like the idea of dining on select dishes and then being ferried to the next restaurant to try out more dishes. Felt as if I was on a tour. In fact, a bus was also chartered just to bring us from the Thai Village Restaurant at Leisure Park (Kallang) to Rendezvous Hotel. They should throw in a short tour of Singapore too! (Ok I’m still in the holiday mood, haven’t recovered from my Norway holiday yet!)

For more information on the event, click here to access the SPH site (only if you can read Mandarin. Otherwise, check out these 2 links for my pictures and a write-up each on Thai Village Restaurant and Rendezvous Hotel.
