When getting your rooms painted, most people would pay a lot of energy and effort into deciding what colours to choose. I for one am still thinking whether or not to go ahead with my original stately blue choice, or to go for a more neutral earthy tone, both of which I think would go really for the theme that I have in mind.

But one thing most people forget to think about, is the type of paint to get. Yes, you may have selected the colour, but times have changed! Gone are the days where paint is just a coating on the wall that happens to have a colour. Nowadays, paint comes with magical scientific properties that you would have not thought possible, I kid you not! For example, if your walls have many imperfections like cracks, you ought to try the the Dulux Pentalite  paint. If you want some help making your tiny rooms look just that bit bigger, Dulux Light & Space with Lumitec is what you want. For indoor spaces, these are the following paints that you can get from Dulux.

  • Dulux All (all in one)
  • Dulux Wash & Wear (Repels tough stains)
  • Dulux Pure (with air cleansing properties)
  • Dulux Light & Space with Lumitec technology (makes rooms look bigger)
  • Dulux Pentalite (hides walls imperfections)
  • Dulux Weathershield (protection against the weather)

That Dulux Light & Space with Lumitec technology sure sounds like it was taken out of a page from Harry Potter’s world, but in actual fact, how it works is that it has properties which allows it to reflect up to twice as much light than normal emulsion wall paint, which makes the walls look brighter and hence larger. I’m sure most HDB dwellers would be keen to consider that.

I won’t be going for the Dulux Light & Space though. Although my rooms are also HDB sized, I am lucky that due to the layout of the flat, all my rooms already receive bright sunshine throughout the day. I can’t imagine it getting any brighter, so I’ll be going for another type of paint to solve another “pesky” problem that I recently discovered.

After the stressful part of purchasing a new home, comes the even more stressful decision of how to redecorate and renovate the house into a home. The people from Dulux Singapore have kindly offered to sponsor a paint job for my home, and I am really looking forward to the transformation. The perfectionist in me wants everything to be picture perfect such that I will have a home to be proud of, and more importantly, to have a home that I am inspired to come home to each day.

Although what we have bought is a DBSS, which means that the place is in move in condition, there is much scope for improvement. For one, there is no differentiation to any of the rooms, apart from the size. I want a home where each room boasts its own unique features and identity. Case in point….guess which room is the study room in my house?

Guess which Room (3)

Guess which Room (2)

Guess which room is the study room in my house???

Can’t tell right?? Every room has white walls! Although white walls do go well with the parquet flooring, still, there must be more to life than just white, right? The people at Dulux told me that Singaporeans’ favourite paint colour is WHITE! OMG, I do not want to be just like everyone else! I think there’s a tendency for people to be a little complacent in this regard. When we first moved in, the white walls look pleasant enough, so it’s natural to focus the renovation ideas on other aspects such as furniture and woodwork, not realising that the colour of the walls plays a very important role in the look and feel of the house. The colour of the walls is like a foundation, a canvas that sets the theme and mood.

Ok so the easy bit was deciding that we won’t settle for white walls in every room. The hard part is deciding on the colours! The very thought of having to choose something that I will permanently have to live with, at least for the next few years is enough to send me into months of procrastination!

Luckily, Dulux sent us on a 3 hour crash course on colour inspiration, where I learnt a few nifty tricks. Here are 6 steps that anyone will need to take in order to select the perfect colour for each room.

Listening To My Body–Top 5 tips to improve the health

I have been under the weather lately, not just a couple of days, but a longer period than that. It’s times like these when the body issues distress calls in the form of flu, cold, headaches, body aches, that jolts me into questioning whether I have been paying attention to my body and how I have been treating it.

I am not an advocate for taking medicine. I have not taken any antibiotics in years. If I have a cold or a flu, I usually tell the doctor I want no medicine as such medicines only suppress the symptoms but do not cure the illness. I particularly detest the painkiller ads on TV, where you see the guy suffering from back pain and taking a painkiller, only to be encouraged to go back to his back breaking work. That’s equivalent to giving some throat lozenges to a smoker with smoker’s cough, to mask the itch, so that the smoker can continue smoking. This is so morally wrong.

The point is, everyone has to listen to their own bodies, and find time to make things right, rather than to take quick fix solutions. Question yourselves, are you working too hard, too long, not exercising enough, always feeling stressed?

Here are my top 5 tips to give the body a break, listen to it for once and regain your health and vitality.

Meditation / Enjoy a calm and peaceful surrounding

We live very stressful lives in Singapore, often having to meet tight deadline after deadline. This is not something that you should accept as the norm.  People often forget this when they seek out the highest paying jobs, which often comes with greater stress. Know that this takes a toll on health and has an actual impact to your pocket when the medical bills start racking up. My advise to mitigate this stress, is to take some time out to enjoy some peace and solitude. Meditate if you can. Even going for spas or chilling out at a cafe need not be considered just mere luxury, but actually beneficial to health. But if money is an issue, at least find a quiet park or take a stroll around some reservoir. Even de-cluttering your room and decorating it with some calming furniture helps.

Singtel Easy Mobile Plan – Win a 2 year plan worth $1,560!

November 2014 UPDATE:

After 3 months of trying out Singtel’s latest Easy Mobile Plan for free courtesy of Singtel, I’m seriously considering switching my current classic plan to the Easy Mobile Plan, just so that I can enjoy more units of data. In fact, I have not upgraded my phone in the longest time simply because I do not want to lose my 12 gig of data that I currently enjoy on the classic plan. But with the latest iPhone 6 constantly calling out to me, it’s getting harder and harder to resist. Should I????

Have you checked out the new Singtel Easy Mobile plan already? If you didn’t already know about it, you can read all about it here. I know, it all sounds a little strange at the beginning. After having lived with fixed plans for so many years, why would anyone feel the need to tweak their plans? What on earth is Tweaking anyway?

But here’s the beauty, you DON’T have to tweak the plans if you don’t want. But you HAVE the flexibility in built into the plan, such that should the need arise one day, you can!

And that’s what happened to me last month! I usually need very little call time and I spend most of my phone time whatsapping, instagramming or surfing the internet. But last month, my phone at home decided to go nuts! Instead of having to rush out to get a new home phone, I simply tweaked my plan to give me more call time. Easy peasy.

Now to get you started, how about a chance to win a 2-year Singtel Easy Mobile L plan worth $65 x 24 = $1,560??????? Simply visit this link here by 30 September 2014 and submit your ideas on how to make life easier!

Singtel Easy Mobile – Substitute more data for less calls!

*Sponsored Review*

Hey people, did you know there is a new phone plan by Singtel called Singtel Easy Mobile that allows you the flexibility of tweaking your plan to suit your phone use habits? If you are a heavy data user, you can tweak your plan such that you get more data in exchange for less local call time or less local SMSes!

Capture2

OK this diagram above shows the type of standard data plans that we have been accustomed to for the the last few years. Eg, if you get the Value plan for $59.90, you get the standard 200 mins local calls, 900 free SMS and 3 GB of data.

HOWEVER, this is all about to change if you sign up for Singtel Easy Mobile!

There are 4 different price plans for you to choose from, each plan giving a certain number of units. For comparison’s sake, if you were to choose the L plan, you would get 16 units, which you can TWEAK as you like. If you’re like me, a heavy user of Instagram, Facebook and all sorts of other data zapping apps, you would want to TWEAK the plan such that you allocate the maximum number of units for the data.
