The competition will culminate in a finale cookoff on 14 December 2012 as contestants try to out-cook each other for a shot at winning the Bosch Dream Kitchen Makeover with home appliances from Bosch, kitchen design, cabinetry, fitting and accessories from BLUM, and quartz counter top from Belenco.

Each webisode of The Bosch Dream Kitchen Cookoff revolves around the creation of different components of a meal under the observation of a distinguished group of Mentoring Master Chefs, including celebrity chefs John See of The Food Dot; Andrea Scarpa, Executive Chef of Da Paolo Bistro Bar; Heather Barrie of Fine Palate; Tim Ross-Watson of The Garden of Eden Restaurant; and Julien Royer, Chef de Cuisine of JAAN at the Equinox Complex. To spice things up, each team will be challenged to recreate specialty dishes originally created by the Masters.

Gryphon Tea launches Grand Cru Collection

Gryphon Tea Event

Recently, I was invited to attend a private tea and water appreciation session. As this would be very different from the usual eat, eat and eat some more food tasting session, I jumped at the opportunity. I had previously attended a number of wine tasting sessions (Singapore, Australia, New Zealand) and I quite enjoyed the experience, even though I got tipsy for the one in New Zealand. Of course, there’s no chance of me getting embarrassingly tipsy for a tea tasting session. And the thing about such appreciation sessions is that you get to learn so much about the product that you’re tasting. The history, the processes, down to the very reason why you’re even tasting the product that you’re tasting.

The tea master of the day, and also the founder of Gryphon Tea is Mr Lim Tian Wee. He hails from an illustrious tea export family business known as Lim Lam Thye. I like to think of him as the guy who developed a modern identity for his family tea business and imparted in it a refreshingly hip spin.

Bosch @ Savour 2012 – Part 2

*Media Invite*

Here are the pictures from the Savour 2012 Face Off competition between Chef John See and Chef Claudio Sandri. Both chefs were using state of the art Bosch kitchen equipment to demonstrate their cooking. I don’t know about you, but for me, looking at kitchen appliances and kitchenware turns me on. And when you pair the words kitchen appliances with STATE OF THE ART, you basically have my full attention!

Unfortunately, I don’t have funky cool kitchen appliances in my house. I guess the 2 things I’m most proud of in my house is my huge built in oven as well as my stand up mixer. I would love to deck out my kitchen with state of the art kitchen equipment. It’s a pity that kitchen sizes are getting smaller in Singapore. The property people say it’s because Singaporeans are cooking less. I say it’s because the kitchens are so embarrassingly small that the act of cooking is made much more difficult, resulting in people having no choice but to eat out.

Like most traditional households in Singapore, I use gas stoves rather than induction stoves. I like to see the flames and I judge the heat by looking at the flames. The stoves at the Bosch Specialty Kitchen were fitted with induction stoves. Apparently, you listen for the sizzling sounds in the pan to judge if your pan is hot enough! Also, it seems the pan heats up pretty quickly when using the induction stove, contrary to popular belief. And because it’s state of the art, all you need to do is to push some buttons and it’s working already. No need to fiddle with matches or lighters.

The chefs made it look really easy to cook with the induction stove. For me, it’ll take more than just looking to convince me to move to an induction stove. Can Bosch please invite me to have a hands on experience with their appliances and equipment? I wouldn’t mind if you loan me the stuff either! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Bosch @ Savour 2012

Before I begin the post proper, I just want to say that the highlight of the event was to be escorted under a huge 6 man umbrella by a cute umbrella bearer during the torrential downpour. What a sight indeed. At first, it was just me, Hazel from Ai Makan and Sherie of Maameemoomoo together with the umbrella. Half-way to the VIP booth, we acquired 2 stowaways, who just as mysteriously disappeared before we even reached our booth. Scroll right to the end for photos.

OKAYYY, on to the event itself. As the official home appliance sponsor of SAVOUR 2012, Bosch invited old media as well as new media to experience Bosch’s best-in- class induction hobs, elite built-in ovens, versatile kitchen machines and a range of cooking appliances during a “Face Off” cooking experience with Bosch star chefs. The 2 star chefs of the day were Chef John See, who previously worked as the Chief Chef to former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, as well as Chef Claudio Sandri, who currently helms the kitchen at Brasserie Wolf.

While waiting for the chefs to do their thing, we indulged ourselves in the delicious canapés provided. I love canapés, not least because they look so dainty and tasty! If there are so many dim sum restaurants around, why aren’t there restaurants focussing on just canapés?

The perks of being Bosch’s VIP guest was that we got to raid the VIP tent! After walking through the torrential downpour, I wasn’t all that keen on the free flow of champagne so I just opted for a cappuccino. There were lots of canapés to choose from. We were told they were all air flown in from France, but actually, we agreed that most of the canapés tasted weird. No idea why. There was however, 1 item which was fantastic beyond words, and that was the chocolate treat above. Top layer of chocolate ganache like jelly followed by another chocolate layer that has a mousse flavour but not texture, and finally at the bottom, chocolate crispy base. Decadence! I had 3 to myself. Pity there’s no way to buy this …

Savour 2012

Here’s a sneak peak of what’s in store at this year’s Savour 2012 held at the F1 Pit Stop. I got a chance to visit Savour courtesy of Bosch, and I’ll blog about that in the following post. In the mean time, enjoy the pictures! I believe tickets have to be bought on site now that the event has started.

Go early and remember to wear comfortable footwear because there will be a lot of walking! Bring an umbrella too! I had to walk in a poncho under the torrential rain today as I happened to be stuck in a standalone individual tent! Come hungry! Lots to sample!
