The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf – New Food and Drinks!

I have a soft spot for The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf because it was there that I tried my maiden ice-blended coffee drink all those years back. When they first opened in Singapore, there were few other places to try such stuff, Starbucks being the main competition. There are multiple options in various permutations available today, however The Coffee Bean’s mocha ice-blended coffee is still one of my firm favourites.

So it was good to know that they have updated their food and drinks menu. From now until 24th May 2017, you can try two new Mexican Chocolate beverages. There’s the Mexican Chocolate Latte if you want a hot drink, and the Mexican Chocolate Ice Blended Drink if you want a cold drink.

Mexican Chocolate Latte – Small: $7, Regular: $7.70, Large: $8.20

Stuttgart Blackforest Boutique S-Cafe

What a mouthful! Chanced upon this restaurant about half a year back and was quite surprised to see a restaurant all decked out in the German/Black Forest theme that I hadn’t heard of prior to seeing it! Finally managed to check it out only yesterday.

I love German food, not just the sausages and the pork knuckles, but also other things like sauerkraut and spätzle. I could eat bowls and bowls of sauerkraut, if only it were more commonly found in Singapore!

The place is decked out with lots of wood, and they even have a number of evergreen pine trees to make you feel as if you really are in some part of the Black Forest. Actually I think this Stuttgart Blackforest Boutique S-Cafe is more gimmick than good food although I must admit I too was attracted to enter by this interesting looking place.

Granted, the beers are quite reasonably priced, at $15 for half litre, and $18 for 1 litre, but the food menu is painfully limited. If you’ve been to Werner’s Oven in the East or Brotzeit, the menu at Stuttgart is like 1/10th of what would normally be available.

Marina Bay Sands Rise Restaurant

Rise Restaurant at Marina Bay Sands has been open for a couple of years now. I’m sure most buffet fanatics out there would have tried this buffet by now. I’ve dined at Rise Restaurant on a couple of occasions but they were always ala carte orders. So I decided the time was ripe to take my parents for a nice lunch at Rise Restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by the pricing. $49++ for weekend lunch buffet makes Rise Restaurant a very value-for-money buffet, don’t you think? This is especially when you consider the size of the spread.

Even though I look like I’ve been gorging on buffets quite often these past few months, the truth is that I haven’t actually gone for a lunch or dinner buffet in about a year! All the previous buffets you’ve read about on this blog this year were Afternoon Tea buffets, which ahem, is quite different from a lunch/dinner buffet!

Rise Restaurant Marina Bay Sands - Dessert Station

I’m a sucker for pretty desserts. The dessert display at Rise Restaurant is definitely worthy of being part of an Afternoon Tea buffet. My idea of a good afternoon tea dessert display is that it has to be whimsical and eye-popping.

I am not one to eat desserts before mains, but when it comes to posting pictures, who’s to say we can’t post pictures of cakes and sweet treats first?

Ritz Carlton Summer Afternoon Tea 2013

I’ve been a fan of Ritz Carlton’s Afternoon Tea for the longest time and after my cousin asked me to recommend me great places to have afternoon tea in Singapore, I started to have cravings again. Yes I know the last time I had afternoon tea at Ritz Carlton was but a mere 6 months ago, but for an afternoon tea lover like me, that just feels like decades ago. Besides, back in December, it was the Winter afternoon tea menu that we tried. It’s Summer already for god’s sakes!

For the uninitiated, Ritz Carlton Singapore’s Chihuly Lounge changes their afternoon tea menu four times a year to suit the four seasons. It’s all about getting inspiration from the produce of the season as well as the weather of course. And what better way to celebrate summer than to have a Mediterranean theme for the Summer Afternoon Tea. (I have a good mind to ask Four Seasons Hotel if their afternoon tea is inspired after the four seasons as well, ha!)

The Mediterranean afternoon tea theme is best showcased by their desserts, so let me first tempt you with the dessert pictures. Don’t get me wrong though, I was a good girl and ate the savouries first before hitting the dessert table. Actually, I’m the sort who has to have the main course first before dessert. And I can’t just have desserts as the main meal. I’ll feel as if I haven’t had lunch/dinner, even if I’m busting from the cake I just consumed. Interestingly, as long as I’ve had the mains first, I can go on to dessert and back to savoury again, if we’re talking about a buffet setting. Smile

Ritz Carlton Afternoon Tea - Shell Shaped Macarons with Olive Butter (2)

Shell Shaped Macarons with Olive Butter

These were really delicious macarons! Light and airy meringue casings sandwiched together with an interesting olive butter. There was just a tad too much olive butter to my liking but otherwise, the macarons tasted fantastic. Neither were they overloaded with sugar, like how most macarons are. You know what’s the best part? You can eat 10 if you want to because it’s a buffet!! Probably the most value-for-money macarons ever!

Ritz Carlton Afternoon Tea - Seaweed Cake

Seaweed Cake

I don’t usually eat cakes with fondant, but these were too good to resist. Aren’t they cute? I’ve yet to come across a seaweed cake before. This tasted like a somewhat heavier than usual sponge cake with seaweed flakes all over. Delicious!
