When was the last time you visited Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao? If you haven’t been in recent times, now’s a great time to revisit as the Michelin one starred restaurant popular for its Northern Chinese specialities has recently refreshed its all-day dining menu.
My family and I had the pleasure of checking out their new menu recently. Here’s what we tried and our take on it.
Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao – Signature Assorted XLB (Original, Salted egg yolk, Chilli crab & Black truffle) $17.80
Check out the chilli crab and salted egg yolk flavours, which are specially made to cater to the Singaporean palate. Personally, I still prefer the good old original flavour because I enjoy the distinct flavours of the pork. However if you’re a fan of variety, these little morsels are a delightful meaty and soupy mix. I know these look so Instagrammable but be warned, the quality of these babies deteriorate with each passing moment so get your snaps quick and get to it while they’re still piping hot or else there’s be no broth to talk about!
Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao – Pan-fried Chives Pancake with Egg $5.80
Being a foodie, I hardly avoid any food. Unfortunately, not a fan of chives. But interestingly, I quite enjoyed these because of the crispy and light exterior.
Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao – Steamed Mustard Green Pork Bun $5.80
These buns have a tasty interior of steamed mustard greens and juicy pork bits. Unfortunately as you can see from the picture, too much bun, which masked the ingredients.
Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao – Salted egg yolk pork floss pastry $5.30
If you like pork floss, you will like this version which amps up the flavours with the inclusion of slated egg yolk.
Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao – Pork Collar with fresh Szechuan peppercorn & preserved vegetable soup $16.80
Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao – Steamed Chinese mugwort glutinous ball $6.80
Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao – Braised seafood with beancurd in hot stone pot
Happy customers waiting to tuck in!
Do you not agree that the restaurant interior looks inviting? Much better than what I remember it to be when I last visited several years ago. the decor makes you want to linger just a little bit longer as opposed to no frills quick meal kind of vibe.
