Hotel Intercontinental Weekend High Tea

July 3, 2010

I think everyone can tell by now that I just love going for afternoon tea and discovering new cafes. One of the afternoon high teas I like is at Hotel Intercontinental’s lobby. It is quite similar to the Rose Verandah at The Shangri-La Hotel and L’Espresso at Goodwood Park Hotel in that it focuses on Western afternoon tea items.

Those who like a huge spread will not like these places, but the novelty of dining in such places is that the setting makes you feel so relaxed, as if you are not in Singapore. If you’ve been to Hotel Intercontinental, you will know that most of the seats are the sofa type, so it was great to be able to lounge on the sofa nibbling away. Between the 2 of us, we had 2 huge sofas plus 2 arm chairs. I sat on each one throughout the course of the high tea. Hee hee!

HotelIntercontinental afternoon tea items Free flow of lamb chops was reason enough for the Partner to give the thumbs up to Hotel Intercontinental. As for me, I think I emptied half the tureen of asparagus cooked in cheese.

Jam donut with 2 scones Two types of scones (1 fruit scone and 1 plain scone), plus sugar jam donuts.

HotelIntercontinental made to order sandwichesI think the made to order sandwiches will surely please. I haven’t seen that at any other afternoon tea buffet that I’ve been to. They have a whole selection of condiments like smoked meats, smoked salmon, ham, cucumbers, pickles, caviar cream and a whole lot more I can’t remember now.

Just tell the chef what you want and the type of bread and they will prepare the sandwiches for you.

  1. I love the Rose Veranda too…but this place with its sandwiches and sugar jam donuts looks very very tempting. I am always on the lookout for places with comfy plush sofas for long leisurely chats…and pure relaxation 🙂
