How to beat the queues at the Johor Immigration Checkpoint

Everyone loves the idea of hopping across the causeway to Johor Bahru for cheap shopping and good food. But it’s no secret that before you can enjoy the thrills that JB offers, you must first brave the jams at the Immigration Checkpoint. The Woodlands Checkpoint to the Johor Bahru Checkpoint is but a 2.5 km stretch but if you’ve ever been stuck in a multi-hour jam there, the two places feel world’s apart.  If only it were a breeze to make the journey across, I am sure many more Singaporeans would make day trips to JB multiple times a year. Wouldn’t it be a dream when you no longer have to even devote an entire day to visiting JB, it could be as simple as "going into town" for a couple of hours!

I for one have been itching to revisit JB and do more cafe hopping since my last visit. But devoting an entire day to this has been next to impossible as we are stuck with having to pick Edward from school during lunch time on weekdays, and the weekend crowds are even more off-putting. But nevertheless, here’s my tips on how to beat the queues at the Johor Customs, assuming that you are not going by car. Let’s be frank, it’s either going to need advance planning, or you’re going to need to be in "battle-mode" and have your smarts about you.

Chinese New Year 2020 : Best restaurants to go for great Yu Sheng

Now that the Christmas festivities are over, it’s time to change direction and start planning for Chinese New Year. And when it comes to all things Chinese, bigger is better! So here’s a list of where to go for the most decadent and luxurious Yu Sheng you can find in Singapore for your reunion dinners / lohei to help you HUAT BIG in the year of the Metal Rat!

Interestingly, unlike in previous years, not many restaurants are featuring the rat image in their Yu Sheng creations. Perhaps the rat does not lend itself well to being recreated in Yu Sheng form, unlike say a horse, a monkey or even the pig. However, if you scroll down, you will see that Fullerton Hotel has done a pretty nice rat version. Do you know of any other Rat Yu Shengs out there? Head on over to my Instagram Stories to vote if you’d like to have a depiction of the Rat in your Yu Sheng. After all, the Rat IS part of the Chinese Zodiac.

Here are another two gift ideas that cost you less than $100 upfront, but is potentially worth so much more to the receiver. The Entertainer and Burpple apps are apps that allow you to enjoy 1-for-1 dining deals at numerous eateries in Singapore.
