How to beat the queues at the Johor Immigration Checkpoint

Everyone loves the idea of hopping across the causeway to Johor Bahru for cheap shopping and good food. But it’s no secret that before you can enjoy the thrills that JB offers, you must first brave the jams at the Immigration Checkpoint. The Woodlands Checkpoint to the Johor Bahru Checkpoint is but a 2.5 km stretch but if you’ve ever been stuck in a multi-hour jam there, the two places feel world’s apart.  If only it were a breeze to make the journey across, I am sure many more Singaporeans would make day trips to JB multiple times a year. Wouldn’t it be a dream when you no longer have to even devote an entire day to visiting JB, it could be as simple as "going into town" for a couple of hours!

I for one have been itching to revisit JB and do more cafe hopping since my last visit. But devoting an entire day to this has been next to impossible as we are stuck with having to pick Edward from school during lunch time on weekdays, and the weekend crowds are even more off-putting. But nevertheless, here’s my tips on how to beat the queues at the Johor Customs, assuming that you are not going by car. Let’s be frank, it’s either going to need advance planning, or you’re going to need to be in "battle-mode" and have your smarts about you.

Here are another two gift ideas that cost you less than $100 upfront, but is potentially worth so much more to the receiver. It’s no secret that we all love to eat out, after all there isn’t all that much to do in Singapore, especially after work on a weekday. The Entertainer and Burpple apps are apps that allow you to enjoy 1-for-1 dining deals at numerous eateries in Singapore. There are some overlaps in the restaurants / cafes covered, but in general, I would say that the Entertainer covers main course dishes at restaurants (including some fine dining restaurants), as well as some fun attractions and hotels. They are even throwing in deals with merchants in Bali and Johor Bahru! If however cafes are more your thing, go for the Burpple App as it covers more cafes. Get the app which you think suits the dining habits of your gift recipient.

HARRIS Hotel Batam Center review – Affordable hotel with a convenient location

[Media Invite]

After our lovely 2N3Ds at HARRIS Waterfront Resort Batam, we were sad to have to leave the resort as we still had so much more we wanted to do! Alas time waits for no man but at least we still had one final night in Batam, albeit at sister property HARRIS Hotel Batam Center. The two properties are quite different. HARRIS Waterfront is a resort where there are lots of activities such that you will not want to leave the property.

HARRIS Hotel Batam Center on the other hand is more no-frills. It is a value-for-money hotel where you plan to be out the whole day touring and enjoying Batam. Therefore, the decor is a little dated, and the toilet amenities offered are basic. However the room is still clean and that splash of orange colour (HARRIS’s corporate colour) is enough to make the room cheery. We managed to snag a room with a great view of the “Welcome to Batam” sign, Alun Alun Batam Centre and Batam Mega Mall. (Promo code available right at the end of the post!)

HARRIS Resort Waterfront Batam–Fun resort hotel with lots to do for the whole family!

HARRIS Resort Waterfront Batam - Family Room

If you have been following me on Instagram, you would have seen me spamming a lot of Batam pictures on Instastories. Yes, I spent a grand total of 4 days in Batam! It was my first time in Batam and it was great. Truth be told, I have been wanting to go to Batam for the longest time. However most people have already been to Batam at least once so it was difficult to find an enthusiastic partner. So I was really happy when I was contacted by HARRIS Hotels to check out two of their properties : HARRIS Resort Waterfront Batam and HARRIS Hotel Batam Center. (Promo code available right at the end of the post!) (Also win a free night’s stay at HARRIS WATERFRONT by entering my contest)
