Yum Cha, well known for its variety of dim sum, has launched 3 special items only available for Mother’s Day this year. The items will be available until 11 May at all outlets. The only exception is Serangoon Garden Country Club during the hours of 6pm — 11pm.
The most unique item for the Mother’s Day menu are the Lavender Buns with Shredded Coconut. The buns contain lavender buds to create a calming scent in the bun. Shredded coconut filling is added to give the buns a sweet ending. The purple coloured buns which reminds you of toiletries does take some getting used to, but once you get over that, the lavender taste is pretty pleasant. The rich coconut filling is also moist and palatable, and Yum Cha has been very generous in the amount.
The double roe tiger prawn dumpling is surely a feast for the eyes due to the vibrant colours of the roe as well as the size of the dumpling. It is indeed a very voluptuous dumpling, using premium black sturgeon roe instead of the cheaper tobiko, although I personally would prefer it to consist more of prawn rather than pork.
Lastly, there’s the glazed fruit tartlet. I did not try this but I was told by my fellow diners that the fruit pieces were very fresh tasting. The glazed fruit tart comprises mandarin orange, strawberry and blueberry with a secret Yum Cha custard recipe.
By the way, did you know that Yum Cha has opened a new outlet at Changi Busienss Park at UE Bizhub East? It’s just a 5 minute walk from the Expo MRT Station. I am told that that this place is packed on the weekends, especially after families complete their grocery shopping at the large NTUC nearby.
