PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay Peppermint restaurant – Well-loved Tantalising Thai Buffet returns!

October 28, 2024

I brought the family to PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay’s buffet restaurant Peppermint last week to check out the Tantalising Thai Buffet. It was our first time to Peppermint and I was mesmerised by how stylishly designed the place was. I spent a good minute soaking in the lovely setting.

It still exuded a cosy atmosphere thanks to the low lighting and ample sofa seating around.

The Tantalising Thai buffet is presented in collaboration with Thai guest chef, Chef Wattanasak “Bas” Changkeb, and with the support of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. It runs from 3 October to 8 November 2024. Chef Bas brings with him exemplary credentials.

Having been a chef for nearly a decade in Bangkok, he also has extensive experience competing in multiple culinary competitions. You may recognise his name from his most recent win at Top Chef Thailand (Season 3).

Dishes to look out for include the following:

  • Beef “Soup Hang Wua” (Spicy Wagyu Beef Oxtail Tower with Coriander)
  • Pu Pad Pong Kari (Wok-fried Yellow Curry Crab Meat with Crispy Rice Cracker)
  • Gaeng Kua Sapparod Lobster (Rock Lobster Cooked in Pineapple Tamarind Gravy)
  • Thai Style Slow Roast Black Angus Tomahawk
  • Mango Sticky Rice with Coconut Sauce

I must admit most of the mains were new to me, having dined at the more casual Thai restaurants in Singapore (think Pad Thai, Beef Basil Rice and Green Chicken Curry). If you are like me, this is all the more reason to come check out the Tantalising Thai Buffet and savour these luxurious dishes.

I particularly loved the Spicy Wagyu Beef Oxtail, the broth really packed a punch with its tangy and meaty flavour. If I didn’t have to keep my cholesterol in check, I really would have liked to finish this entire bowl.

Another dish that saw me going back for seconds was the Wok-fried Yellow Curry Crab Meat with Crispy Rice Cracker. Such a generous amount of crab meat in each spoonful. The curry was only mildly spicy to allow for the crab meat flavours to shine through.

The dessert section was more familiar to me and I lost no time in taking a huge portion of the mango sticky rice, making sure to lace it with more coconut milk than usual. I suppose it’s not difficult to guess that Mango Sticky Rice is my favourite Thai dessert!

Other desserts available include Khanom Tako, a creamy, coconut-based pudding with a light and delicate texture.

The Thai dishes certainly kept us busy, going back for multiple rounds. But don’t forget the other sections of the buffet including an extensive cold seafood selection, sushi and sashimi as well as some Indian dishes.

If you visit the Tantalising Thai Buffet at Peppermint, do take a breather halfway through the meal to appreciate the authentic Thai decorations provided by the the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Also, everyone who dines there will also have a chance to win a trip to Koh Samui, Thailand, courtesy of Bangkok Airways. Do take lots of pictures and submit your best shot via the QR code made available at your table.
