[Media Invite]

Kam's Roast - Whole Roast Duck, Iberico Char Siu, Crispy Roast Pork

Prosperity Trio (Whole Roast Duck, Iberico Char Siu, Crispy Roast Pork) – $108 (Takeaway only)

How about living it up this Chinese New Year by getting Kam’s Roast Golden Duck flecked with 22-carat edible French Gold Flakes? Kam’s Roast usual Roast Duck costs $66, but if you want the Golden Duck, it costs $88. OK I guess most people would go for the original Roast Duck to save $22, but the Golden Duck might actually be a good gift for your business clients if you had to get a CNY gift for them!

What to do at Savour 2013?

Savour2013 (3)

Before you do anything else at Savour 2013, you have to take a shot of the Singapore Flyer from the entrance angle. Smile

I was there today for The Great Fiji Water Race. If you didn’t go today, you’ve missed it, but you can still review all the action at http://instagram.com/365days2play. In fact, you should add me on Instagram and Twitter because you can get INSTANT and LIVE updates from me! SmileSmile

It was insanely hot when I got there at 2pm today. Woe betide the staff that had to stay at the ground level out in the open because I was sweltering after just 5 minutes there while doing my Fiji Water Race. Although the afternoon tickets are cheaper, I highly recommend that you take the evening tickets as it just makes for a more pleasant experience. I spent most of my time exploring the air-conditioned Gourmet Market, which is located in the F1 Pit Building. Whether you have an afternoon ticket or an evening ticket, you can enter the Gourmet Market anytime. The ticket type only restricts your movements in the Gourmet Village.

Savour2013 (12)

There was lots to do in the Gourmet Market. I armed myself with a toothpick and went around sampling all the delicious goodies. The Gourmet Market has a very Farmer’s Market feel, and you don’t feel pressured to buy anything at all. The guys at the gourmet sausage section were dishing out sausage after sausage after sausage and were probably the most packed area after the cheese section. As for the cheeses, I literally tasted 10 different types of cheeses!

Spruce at Upper Bukit Timah FireStation

This was my 2nd visit to Spruce, but first visit to it’s Upper Bukit Timah Firestation outlet. My 1st visit was to the Spruce at Phoenix Park near town. As usual, I decided to sit al-fresco to avoid the air-conditioning. Also, it was drizzling slightly that day, and it was just a delight to be sitting facing the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve that was shrouded in a slight haze. Living in the Eastern part of Singapore, which is bereft of Nature Reserves, I often feel, or try to feel like I’m not really in Singapore when I see so much trees!

We had gone to visit a photographer in Choa Chu Kang, and were famished by the time we got out. I didn’t actually have a clue as to where to eat, but thankfully, when we drove past the Firestation, I remembered Spruce was in there and we turned in.

Spruce - Eggs Benny (Corn Waffle, Back Bacon and Hollandaise Sauce) $15 (2)

Eggs Benny (Corn Waffle, Back Bacon and Hollandaise Sauce) $15

The most vegetarian option as usual, this was ordered by my father. They so kindly switched the corn waffle with brioche toast, and the back bacon with slices of avocado! An extremely healthy dish, unlike what I ordered…. Love the contrast between the feta cheese and tomatoes!

Beer Market at Clarke Quay

You may have heard of the stock market, but have you ever heard of a beer market? You heard me right man. I recently discovered this lovely hangout place in Clarke Quay called Beer Market. It is run by 3 beer loving best friends who used to study together at SJI. They say many a friendship is ruined when friends become colleagues. Guess this rule doesn’t apply to the trio as Beer Market has been going strong for the last 3 years!

Beer Market, as the name suggests, really works like a stock exchange. There is no shouting of course, anyway it’s all automated nowadays, except for the Chicago Mercantile Exchange I believe. Incidentally, I was working at the Singapore Exchange when they closed the floors, but I digress.Beer Market Trading Screens (5)

Screens like these are located all over the restaurant pub. It’s not too difficult to grasp. All you have to do is keep watch of the prices, which is the price you’d pay if you ordered a beer at that instant. The prices change every 30 minutes, so there’s no need to be on your toes the entire time. If you like the price, you buy. If you don’t, you wait, or you choose a different beer. Easy peasy right? For detailed instructions, click here.

If you love sampling new types of beer, Beer Market is the perfect place. There is less risk in trying out beers with low buying volume as those beers are at a cheaper price! Wow I love this concept!

Room Coffee.Bar

*Friend Invite*

Oh man, this post is so belated, I hope my friend doesn’t kill me! Remember nearly 2 years ago, I posted about this tiny cafe called Room with a View tucked away on the 5th floor of a Carpenter Street building? Well they’ve grown up and they have a full fledged cafe complete with hot food, at the new Alexandra Retail Centre in Pasir Panjang!

Room.Coffee.Bar - (30)

I had the opportunity to try it a couple of months back and I have to say, it’s the perfect place to spend a quiet afternoon tapping away on your laptop and sipping a cuppa. There’s also free WIFI to boot and lots of power point sockets! There are so many office towers around Alexandra Retail Centre aka ARC, such as Mapletree Business City, NOL, PSA , HP etc… If only bosses would allow you to work offsite! If it were me, I think I would be doubly productive in a more conducive environment!

Room.Coffee.Bar - Cafe Latte $5.50 Cafe Latte $5.50

Delicious coffee. Strong and smooth. Packs a punch which is perfect for waking sleepy office workers up. Don’t you just love the cute bright red saucer? It put me in a good mood even before I’d drunk the coffee! And the biscotti that Room makes is very good too.

Room.Coffee.Bar - Rosti with Cheesy Chicken Sausage $10 (2) Rosti with Cheesy Chicken Sausage $10

I had this for my lunch. I was afraid it would turn out to be just any old chicken sausage which I can cook myself, but this sausage was very delicious. It was really juicy, coupled with the cheesy bits oozing out. I liked that it didn’t feel fattening either. Also liked the rosti. The potatoes were cooked just right and retained a nice bite. The colour was a little darker than usual, because the skins of the potatoes were also used.

Room.Coffee.Bar - Rosti with Cheesy Chicken Sausage $10

Is it just me or do you see something funny here…. 🙂

Room.Coffee.Bar - Bacon Avocado and Tomato Panini Sandwich $10 Bacon Avocado and Tomato Panini Sandwich $10

The Partner ordered this and enjoyed his sandwich very much. It was chock full of ingredients that were threatening to spill out. A twist to the usual BLT, the creamy avocados made the sandwich feel more substantial than if it had just been plain old lettuce. If you order the panini sandwich for takeaway, you get a free iced tea!

Room.Coffee.Bar - Bacon Avocado and Tomato Panini Sandwich $10 (2)

Room.Coffee.Bar - Dark Chocolate Brownie $6Dark Chocolate Brownie $6

This brownie would please dark chocolate lovers. As I have a sweet tooth, I thought it wasn’t sweet enough for me.
